Kazan Federal University Eligibility Criteria
You must fulfil the following eligibility criteria for admission to Kazan Federal University –
- Age – at least 17 years on or before 31st December in the year in which you are applying
- 12th board exam – 50% or above aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology
- NEET – qualified in the current or the previous 2 years
- Entrance exam – must pass (Chemistry, Biology and English). Please note that due to various reasons, only 10% of applicants on average get admission into Kazan University. When applying to this university, Global Medical Foundation strongly recommends students have at least two universities as a backup.
Kazan Federal University MBBS Course Duration
The duration of the medicine course at any medical university in Russia is 6 years. This includes a clinical rotation of 12 months or more. Each year is divided into 2 semesters. July and August are holidays. Most Indian students return to India during this period. The tuition fee is payable semester-wise. The classes start in September each year. Entrance exams at this university start in May-June. Admission is possible only if you appear and clear the entrance exams.

Medium of Instruction at Kazan Federal University
The entire medical course is taught in the English language at Kazan Federal University. As per NMC’s Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021, the entire course must be taught in the English language or else your medical degree will not be valid in India.
However, as mentioned in the image above (point 3), the students have to be proficient in the local language (Russian language) for day-to-day interaction with the locals and for interaction with patients during clinical training. Also, as per FMGL Regulations 2021, you have to get a license to practice as a doctor from the country in which you study. This means that you have to appear for an accreditation examination in Russia to obtain a certificate of license. This exam will be conducted in the Russian language only.
The medical universities in Russia teach the Russian language to all the students from the 1st semester itself. Therefore, you do not need to have any prior learning of the Russian language.

Kazan Federal University is a WHO-recognized university for MBBS in Russia which was founded in 1804 and is located in the city of Kazan. The name of the medicine department of Kazan Federal University is the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology. The General Medicine program was started in 2013. Till 2021, only a handful of Indian students have passed out from KFU. - No Indian Mess – There is no Indian mess for students at Kazan Federal University. However, the students are provided with a kitchen facility within the hostel. The students have to make their food from day one. This is a big disadvantage of KFU.
- High tuition fee – Kazan Federal University MBBS fees in Ruble is 28.08 lakh or approx ₹30 lakh. When compared to many other universities in Russia, the fee is on the higher side.
- Low Acceptance Rate – You need to pass the entrance exam conducted by KFU to get admission. Many students fail this exam and thus are unable to get admission here. On average, only 10% of students manage to enrol here due to various reasons.
- Not for average students – The university is extremely strict. In recent years, a lot of students failed at KFU and had to either switch their universities or drop out. Only the best students should apply here.
