MBBS in Uzbekistan Duration

The duration of the medical course is 5 years which is as per the requirements of NMC. After completing the MBBS course in Uzbekistan, you will have to undergo an internship of 1 year in the hospitals of the same university. After getting your medical degree and returning to India, you are also required to undergo an Internship of 1 year in India after clearing NExT 1 and then appear for NExT 2.

FMGE Passing Percentage after MBBS in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is a fairly new destination and as such, Indian students’ record of performance in FMGE does not show up in the latest version of university-wise FMGE results. Therefore, the FMGE/MCI Screening Test passing percentage is not available for any year.

MBBS in Uzbekistan Eligibility Criteria

Getting admission to a medical university in Uzbekistan is very easy when compared to countries such as USA/UK/Poland or other countries in the EU. This is because of the fact that medical colleges have relaxed the eligibility criteria for admission of international students.

The following are the minimum eligibility criteria for admission of an Indian student to any of the top medical colleges in Uzbekistan –

  • Age – The student should be 17 years old on or before 31st December of the year in which the student is taking admission
  • 12th % – You must have at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology for admission. Also, all the subjects must be cleared.
  • NEET – You must be a NEET-qualified candidate in the current year or in the previous 2 years.
  • Passport – It is required.

Is Uzbekistan good for MBBS?

Unfortunately, there are no scholarships for studying MBBS in Uzbekistan. You have to either fund your education or take a loan from an Indian bank.

MCI-approved medical colleges in Uzbekistan

MCI or the Medical Council of India has been replaced by the National Medical Commission (NMC). MCI used to main a list of approved medical colleges for MBBS abroad for Indian students. However, NMC does not maintain a list of MCI-approved medical colleges in Uzbekistan or NMC-approved medical colleges for MBBS abroad.

MBBS in Uzbekistan Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction for studying MBBS in Uzbekistan is English for the complete course duration. As per the new NMC rules and regulations, the medium of instruction must be English for studying MBBS abroad. If the medium of instruction is not English for even 1 year, you will not be allowed to sit for NEXT in India.

As there will be Indian teachers in many colleges, it will be much easier for Indian students to understand what they are being taught. Though the medium of instruction is English, it does not mean that you won’t have to learn a new language.

Of course, at some colleges, the hostel facility is better. The hostels are fully furnished and you don’t have to pay any additional charges such as electricity or water bills. Most hostels provide washing machines where students can bring their own detergents and make use of these facilities as well.

Is Uzbekistan fulfilling FMGL Regulations?

In November 2021, NMC released an e-gazette (https://www.nmc.org.in/ActivitiWebClient/open/getDocument?path=/Documents/Public/Portal/NmcGazette/231275.pdf) called the National Medical Commission Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021. Any Indian student who plans to study MBBS abroad and come back to India to practise as a doctor must satisfy all the regulations. These regulations are as follows –

Course duration must be 54 months

The course duration of the medicine course is 5 years of theory + 1 year of internship. Therefore, this regulation is satisfied.

Undergo an internship of 1 year

The 6-year medicine course includes 1 year of internship which happens in the 6th year.

The medium of instruction must be English

The medium of instruction will be English.

However, becoming proficient in the local language is a must as you will need to interact with patients during the internship. It will also be required for day-to-day interaction with local citizens.

Registered with the respective professional regulatory body and getting a license to practice in that country

Unlike in many other countries such as Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, there is no need to sit for a licensing exam in Uzbekistan. You will get automatic registration when you graduate.

Therefore, there is no need to worry about the FMGL Regulations 2021 if you choose to study MBBS in Uzbekistan, but you need to keep a few key points in mind – 

  • The total duration of the foreign medical graduation course shall be completed within ten years from the date of joining the course.
  • You have to learn the local language.
