Tbilisi State Medical University (TMSU) is located in Tbilisi, the capital state of Georgia. It was founded in 1918 and was named as Tbilisi State Medical Institute. The university has an illustrious history of more than 100 years in teaching medicine. In 1992, Tbilisi State Medical Institute was given university status. The university is WHO and MCI recognized. Tbilisi State Medical University History
The university was established on 8th February 1918. On 10th of June, 1930 Tbilisi State Medical Institute was founded. At that time, it only had 3 medical faculties including Somatology, Phytochemistry and Preventive Sanitary.
Later, on 24th November 1992, it was given the status of a university and hence the name – Tbilisi State Medical University. The English-Medium Medical Faculty of General Medicine was established in 1996.
Today, TSMU has the following faculties:
- Medicine,
- Pharmacy,
- Stomatology,
- Public health, and
- Physical medicine and rehabilitation.
The university runs 4 Higher Education Programs:
- General Practice Nurse,
- Midwifery,
- Medical Devices Technician, and
- Pharmacy Technician.
By 2007, the faculty of Therapeutic Physical Training and Rehabilitation of the State Academy of Physical Culture and Sport was started in TSMU.
Between 2015-18, a total of 1,600 Indian graduated of TSMU appeared for FMGE and about 20% passed the exam during this time.

The duration of the program is 6 years. The initial 5 years include theoretical and practical study. The last year includes an internship. After completing the 6-year course from Georiga, the students can come back to India and appear for the screening test.

Tbilisi State Medical University Eligibility Criteria

Admission Process
The admission process for MBBS in Georgia is simple. We provide assistance to students at every step. We at Global Medical Foundation try to make every step of admission process easier for the students.
The documents required for admission are:

Accommodation / Hostel Facility
TSMU does not provide on-campus accommodation facilities to international students. Tbilisi State Medical University does not have a hostel facility for Indian students. The students have to find an apartment for rent in the nearby areas (which are mostly residential). This is the biggest problem of taking admission in TSMU. Tbilisi State Medical University Ranking
As per the website 4icu.org, Tbilisi State Medical University ranking is 8,356 and the country rank is 8 as on 23 June 2020. Times Higher Education has given TSMU a ranking of 201–300 in ‘Impact Rankings: Good health and well-being 2020’ category. On Webometrics, the university has a rank of 4,223.
However, as stated by Global Medical Foundation on several occasions, these world rankings have no relevance while selecting the medical university for MBBS abroad.
The rankings which Indian students should be checking is the MCI result and Tbilisi State Medical University‘s FMGE passing percentage was just about 20% between 2015-18. This can be considered as good. However, there are universities with less budget and a higher passing percentage. These are:
