Russia is amongst the most popular and oldest destinations for Indian students to study MBBS abroad. Indian students have been flocking to Russia from the time when USSR was still in existence. More than 5,000 students are currently enrolled in various colleges in Russia. It is to be noted that every university conducts an entrance exam for MBBS in Russia admission. Also, there are more than 50 universities where you can take admission. Therefore, it becomes difficult to know exactly is the eligibility criteria for admission for studying MBBS in Russia. However, before you can be sure that you will be eligible to sit for the entrance exam conducted by the Russian university, you should be sure that you fulfill the following eligibility criteria –
- Age – 17 years old on or before 31st December of the year in which you wish to apply
- PCB aggregate in class 12th – minimum 50% for General category students and minimum 40% for a student belonging to SC/ST/OBC category
- Passport – required
- NEET – qualified in the current or the previous 2 years
- No entrance exam like IELTS/TOEFL/SAT etc. required
It is mandatory that you fulfill the above-mentioned eligibility criteria. This is not only required for admission for MBBS in Russia, but this is the minimum criteria for MBBS admission in any country abroad. If you do not qualify NEET but still somehow manage to take admission in any college outside of India, you will not be allowed to appear for NExT as per NMC rules.
Entrance exam for MBBS in Russia
As we have mentioned before, every university will conduct an entrance exam for MBBS in Russia. There are 3 exams – Biology, English and Chemistry. So, should you be worried about admission? The answer is, it depends. The fact is that the entrance exam for MBBS in Russia is just a formality at most universities. If they have 150 seats for foreign students, they will accept only 150 students. Even though every student will sit for the entrance exam, each one will pass. This is the common practice at almost all the universities barring a few.
In some of the universities, mostly the ones with ‘Federal’ in their name, students can be denied admission on the basis of his/her performance in the entrance exam for MBBS in Russia. They will take the entrance exam for 3 subjects – Biology, English and Chemistry. The level of the exam is generally not very difficult. Sometimes, the teachers are taking vivas in addition to the written exams as a part of the entrance test. For almost all the rest of the universities, you need not worry or prepare for the entrance exam for MBBS in Russia. Since COVID-19, most universities are conducting the entrance exam online.
