NEET results: 4.09 lakh aspirants qualify

Of the 7.31lakh students who took the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test
(both NEET-1 and NEET-2), 4.09lakh have qualified for admissions to private and deemed medical and dental institutes across the country.

The results for the tests were announced on Tuesday.
The top three scorers with 99.99 percentile are from coaching institutes in Kota.
“Results of NEET 2016 has been declared on the basis of the qualifying criteria prescribed by the Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India, as well as based on the information shared by candidates in their online application forms,” read a statement released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday evening.
The minimum qualifying criteria under the open category has been marked as 50 percentile, followed by the OBC, SC and ST categories with 40 percentile each.
The all-India topper for NEET 2016, Het Shah from Nadiad, Gujarat, who was being trained at a coaching institute in Kota, scored 685 out of 720.
Ekansh Goyal from Odisha (682 marks) stood second and Nikhil Bajiya from Rajasthan (678 marks) stood third. The trio has sought admission to the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in
New Delhi.
Of the 4.09 lakh students eligible for medical and dental admissions, top 15% (19,325 candidates) will be eligible for admissions to the national eligibility quota seats in government-run institutes across the country.
This year, 15 candidates registered for NEET under the transgender category, out of which 9 took the examinations.
Four of them have qualified for medical and dental admissions, of which one candidate has made it to the top 15%.
Parents and students demanded normalisation of scores for NEET-1 and NEET-2, but the CBSE, in its statement, made it clear the difficulty level of both the examinations was kept the same to avoid any conflict at a later stage.
