Is an MBBS in Kyrgyzstan Good or Bad?

One of the most significant doubts for any Indian student considering studying in Kyrgyzstan is whether the MBBS program in Kyrgyzstan is good or bad. The Global Medical Foundation has sent numerous students to study in Kyrgyzstan, and most have successfully passed the licensing exam in India. We have over 10 years of experience in sending students to medical universities in Kyrgyzstan; therefore, we are qualified to answer the question: Is MBBS in Kyrgyzstan good or bad?

An MBBS in Kyrgyzstan is only good if you choose the right university. The focus should always be on the quality of education imparted by the medical colleges, as well as the infrastructure, teachers, and student reviews. Before 2026, not every medical university in Kyrgyzstan was the right choice for Indian students. While some universities are excellent, others were not suitable. Many private colleges had popped up with limited infrastructure. More alarmingly, many of these new private colleges were opened by Pakistani citizens. Therefore, there was a need for education reforms in Kyrgyzstan, and that is exactly what happened.

In 2026, state accreditation became one of the most important quality-control measures for medical universities in Kyrgyzstan. State accreditation is an official quality assessment conducted under the Kyrgyz government’s higher education reforms. Medical universities are evaluated against standards related to:

  • Academic curriculum
  • Faculty qualifications
  • Teaching hospitals and clinical training
  • Laboratories and infrastructure
  • Student support services
  • Quality assurance systems
  • Governance and administration

Universities that meet the required standards receive state accreditation for a specified period. Out of the 20+ universities that were part of the accreditation process, only 6 universities received proper accreditation. You can find more about Kyrgyzstan’s State Accreditation Process below:

Read the advisory on medical education in Kyrgyzstan by the Indian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan: https://indembbishkek.gov.in/docs/1783943148ADVISORY-13.07.2026.pdf. These universities are the best ones in Kyrgyzstan, and studying MBBS in one of these six universities will be a good decision. Global Medical Foundation will ask students to find out about FMGL Regulations compliance directly from the universities.

Global Medical Foundation facilitate student admissions in Kyrgyzstan and countries such as Russia, Georgia, Romania, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Timor-Leste and Uzbekistan. We aim to tell students the truth and guide them and their parents towards finding the best destination for them. Shobhit Jayaswal of Global Medical Foundation has visited Kyrgyzstan multiple times, and we have sent hundreds of students to study MBBS in Kyrgyzstan. Many of the students sent by GMF have cleared FMGE, and some have even cleared USMLE. We strongly advise students to seek guidance from Global Medical Foundation for university selection and apply through us for a fraud-free, guaranteed admission. Introduction to Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is a country in Central Asia. It is located north of India and is bordered by Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. A round-trip between Delhi and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, costs about ₹30,000-45,000. Direct flights are available between Delhi and Bishkek, which take only 3-3.5 hours.

The official languages are Kyrgyz (the native language) and Russian. The currency of Kyrgyzstan is the Som (KGS). Generally, the Kyrgyz Som (KGS) and the Indian Rupee (INR) have similar values, but exchange rates may fluctuate slightly. The country experiences cold winters and moderate summers. Students should be prepared for snowfall.

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan’s capital, is home to universities such as the Kyrgyz State Medical Academythe International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM), Kyrgyz Russian Slavic University, the Asian Medical Institute (now called Asian International University), and the International School of Medicine at the International University of Kyrgyzstan. Osh State University is the only accredited university located outside of Bishkek and is a government university.

MBBS in Kyrgyzstan vs Russia

Indian students and parents are often confused about the difference between Kyrgyzstan and Russia. Therefore, Global Medical Foundation will try to make the comparison easier for you:

MBBS Course Duration

Russia has 12 semesters or 6 years, whereas the MBBS course duration in Kyrgyzstan for Indian students is 5.5 years (11 semesters) in some universities and 6 years in others. You save money as you pay fees for only 11 semesters in Kyrgyzstan if you select a university with a 5.5-year duration. Please note that it is not yet clear whether an internship is included in the 6-year course in Russia, whereas medical universities in Kyrgyzstan claim that the final year consists of an internship.

Proximity to India

A direct flight between Delhi and Bishkek takes only 3-3.5 hours, whereas reaching your university in Russia can take up to 1 day. Direct flights are available between Delhi and Moscow, which take around 7 hours, but 99% of students are at universities outside Moscow. This means students in Russia have to travel a lot and spend extra money. On the contrary, 5 of the 6 accredited universities of Kyrgyzstan are in Bishkek, and it takes only 3.5 hours to reach there from Delhi.

Climate

Both Kyrgyzstan and Russia have cold winters with snowfall. The weather in Bishkek is better than in many Russian cities, where some of the most popular Russian medical universities are located. Check the comparison below of the average high and low temperatures:

Overall Budget

The budget for studying MBBS in Russia and Kyrgyzstan is similar. There are low, medium, and high-budget universities in both countries.

Indian Mess Facility

Most universities in Russia do not have an Indian mess facility, whereas all the universities in Kyrgyzstan provide Indian food via an Indian mess.

FMGE Passing Ratio

The overall FMGE passing % of the medical universities in Russia has been better than the overall FMGE passing % of the medical universities in Kyrgyzstan. However, there are universities in Kyrgyzstan which have better performance than many medical colleges in Russia. Therefore, it is better to check university-wise performance than the overall country’s performance.

Is Kyrgyzstan MBBS Degree Valid in India?

In November 2021, the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India introduced the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations. For a medical degree from a foreign country to be valid in India, it must comply with these FMGL regulations.

As per the new rules, here is what is required –

  • Complete education should be in English.
  • The course duration for Indian students at medical universities in Kyrgyzstan should be at least 54 months.
  • Undergo an internship of 1 year.
  • You must be registered with the respective professional regulatory body and get a license to practice in that country.

Please note that the National Medical Commission (NMC) does not maintain a list of approved universities for MBBS abroad. Instead, students must ensure that the university they choose complies with all NMC regulations under the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021.

In the case of Kyrgyzstan, universities state that they comply with NMC regulations, but students should carefully verify this before making a decision. Many universities claim that they have changed their course duration to match NMC’s FMGL Regulations.

Global Medical Foundation does not claim that the medical universities in Kyrgyzstan are fully complying with the FMGL Regulations. Studying MBBS abroad involves a regulatory risk.

  • February-March
