There are many advantages to studying MBBS in Kyrgyzstan for Indian students. If you choose the right university, Kyrgyzstan can be a good option for MBBS. Is Kyrgyzstan MBBS Degree Valid in India?
In November 2021, the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India introduced the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations. For a medical degree from a foreign country to be valid in India, it must comply with these FMGL regulations.
As per the new rules, here is what is required –
- Complete education should be in English, which is the case in Kyrgyzstan.
- The course duration for Indian students at medical universities in Kyrgyzstan should be a minimum of 54 months. The universities in Kyrgyzstan have introduced a 54-month course for Indian students.
- Undergo an internship of 1 year: The duration of MBBS in Kyrgyzstan is 5.5 years, including an internship of 1 year.
- You must be registered with the respective professional regulatory body and get a license to practice in that country.
According to a letter issued by Osh State University (a government medical university in Kyrgyzstan) and several other universities, the same medical degree is awarded to both local and foreign students upon completion of their education. This degree enables graduates to register with the Kyrgyz Professional Regulatory Body and obtain a license to practice medicine in Kyrgyzstan, giving them the same professional standing as local citizens.
Please note that the National Medical Commission (NMC) does not maintain a list of approved universities for MBBS abroad. Instead, students must ensure that the university they choose meets all NMC regulations as per the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021.
In the case of Kyrgyzstan, universities state that they comply with NMC regulations, but students should carefully verify this before making a decision.
