Georgia MBBS Disadvantages

Studying MBBS in Georgia is one of the best options available to Indian students. However, there are some Georgia MBBS disadvantages. However, if you check the FMGE passing ratio, you will notice that graduates from Georgia have performed better than graduates from Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Shobhit Jayaswal has personally visited the medical universities in Georgia. He can argue that Georgia is perhaps the best destination for Indian students to pursue an MBBS.
While there are many advantages to making Georgia a good option for Indian students, it certainly is not without shortcomings. Most ‘Georgia MBBS disadvantages’ arise when students fail to adjust to the new culture and country. Homesickness is a significant problem among Indian students, but it is not affected by the choice of destination.
Here is a video by Shobhit Jayaswal where he talks in great detail about the advantages and disadvantages of studying MBBS in Georgia:
Here are the Georgia MBBS disadvantages:
- Climate: Some students struggle to adapt to Georgia’s cold climate and weather. This is mentioned in the advisory for Indian students by the Embassy of Armenia. The temperature will be below 0Β° from mid-November to mid-March. However, even when the temperature is below 0Β°, students wonβt have any difficulty when inside any building/car/bus. This is because all the buildings are centrally heated. Compared with countries such as Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, Georgia’s climate is more favourable.
- FMGL Regulations Uncertainties: Since the FMGL Regulations came into force in November 2021, there has been widespread uncertainty about the validity of degrees from all foreign countries. The same fate awaits Georgia. There is no certainty that a degree from Georgia (or any other country) will be recognised in India. However, the Ministry of Education of Georgia issued a notification stating that it is fulfilling all NMC norms. You can read more about it here – Is MBBS in Georgia Valid in India?
- Expensive Destination: Georgia is affordable for some and costly for many. The average tuition fee is around βΉ5-6 lakh per year, and the living cost is approximately βΉ2.5-3 lakh per year. Students must have a budget of βΉ45- βΉ 60 lakh to study in Georgia, depending on the university. Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan are more affordable options.
- Cheating Agents: Many agents in India provide students with incorrect information. This is why you should conduct research and contact only consultancies that have a direct tie-up with universities, such as Global Medical Foundation. Many consultants with direct tie-ups are also misleading students. Students should review consultancies’ reviews before applying through them.
- Not in the EU: Most students and parents think that Georgia is a part of the European Union. However, Georgia is not a member of the European Union. It is located in the Caucasus region of Eurasia, which is at the intersection of Europe and Asia. Many students are misled by agents into believing that Georgia is located in Europe, which is incorrect. This is mentioned in the advisory for Indian students by the Embassy of Armenia.
- Visa and admission process β Obtaining a visa takes time. Getting a visa for Georgia is a lengthy process. The admission and visa process typically takes 2-4 months. However, many agents claim that students will get a visa in 1 month. They do this to attract students with lucrative yet false promises.
- Limited Clinical Exposure: Georgia’s population is low. Students travelling to Tbilisi will still receive clinical exposure, whereas those travelling to Kutaisi and Batumi can expect less. Many universities share the same hospitals, which leads to congestion. Students must be careful while selecting universities. Most parents/students lack the necessary resources and should not blindly trust what any agent states in India. They should contact experienced consultants, such as Global Medical Foundation, for admission. Shobhit Jayaswal of Global Medical Foundation has visited almost all the popular medical universities in Georgia.
- Learning the local language is not merely a disadvantage of the Georgia MBBS. You will have to learn the local language while studying for an MBBS in Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
So what next?
Despite some disadvantages, studying MBBS in Georgia remains a preferred option for many Indian students. Its advantages outweigh its disadvantages. Global Medical Foundation will recommend Georgia over Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. However, you must carefully review the budget and select the most suitable university.
