Xiamen University is a government university located in Fujian, China. It was a research university which was established in 1921. The university has for a long time being ranked as one of the best in Southern China. The university has more than 40,000 students and a faculty of over 2,600 full-time members. It is a part of various initiatives launched by the government of China such as “211 Project”, “985 Project” and “Double First-class” initiative. These initiatives were launched to support selected universities in achieving world-class standing. The university has 4 campuses – Siming campus, Zhangzhou campus, Xiang’an Campus and also a campus in Malaysia. It is one of the best medical universities in China for Indian students. Also, the university’s ranking is very high. It is a top-500 ranked university in the world.

Xiamen University had the 4th highest MCI Screening Test passing percentage among all the universities in China between 2015-18.

Xiamen University Ranking

As per the website 4icu.orgXiamen University ranking is 204 and the country rank is 9 as on 21 May 2020. QS Global World Ranking has given Xiamen University ranking of 451. It is one of the best universities for MBBS in China.

However, as stated by Global Medical Foundation on several occasions, these world rankings have no relevance while selecting the medical university for MBBS abroad.

The rankings which Indian students should be checking is the MCI result and Shihezi University‘s FMGE passing percentage was 22.14% between 2015-18 which is one of the highest among all the medical universities in China.

Duration and Medium of Instruction

  • The course duration is 6 years wherein 1 year is the internship. The internship done in China is recognised in India.
  • Medium of instruction will be English for the whole course. It is one of the 45 universities which teaches in English medium for the whole curse duration.
  • The local language will be taught to you as you are required to speak with the locals in their local language during hospital visits. It will also help you in day to day tasks.

Eligibility Criteria

The good thing about Xiamen University is that the eligibility criteria is less when compared to other medical universities in China. Following is the eligibility criteria –

Entrance Exam in India There is no entrance exam in India like IELTS/SAT, etc. NEET qualification is a must.
Age The student must be at least 17 years old as on 31st December of the year in which the admission is being taken.
Board The candidate must have completed class 12th from a recognised board.
Marks for General Category students The student must have a minimum of 60% in class 12th.
Marks for Other Category students Same as that of General category student. No relaxation based on category.
NEET NEET marks required is at least 250.

Xiamen University Scholarship

A scholarship is available for students who fulfil the following criteria –

  • 12th minimum score – 80%
  • NEET minimum score – 300

Admission Process

  • Step 1 –  Send scan copies of class 10th and 12th mark sheet, Registration Fee Payment Receipt, ID and Adress Proof, Self Declaration Letter, Parents Consent Letter, NEET Result/NTA NEET Form Acknowledgement Letter
  • Step 2 – Receive the Admission Letter within 10-30 days from the application date or from June 5th, 2020 whichever is later.
  • Step 3 – After the application of JW202, the JW202 letter will be received within 15-20 days from the date of application.
  • Step 4 – You can apply for the Chinese Study Visa after completing step 2 and 3. Visa processing time is 7-10 days.
  • Step 5 – After receiving the Study Visa, students can fly to the destination.
